Tani Arness is originally from Poulsbo, Washington, and she has lived in New Mexico for the past nine years.  Her first book Iinruq: the Spirit that is in all things is forthcoming. 19

Maisha Baton is the author of Dancing Shadows and Flight Time and has written several plays including Mitote, Kate’s Sister, and Woman In The Foxhole.  Maisha teaches in the African American Studies Program at UNM. 7

Jill Battson is an internationally published poet and poetry activist. She has been widely featured in literary journals and anthologies in North America and the UK and she has performed her work around the globe. Her first book Hard Candy was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Award. She has also written the libretti for two short operas Netsuke and Ashlike on the Cradle of the Wind produced by Toronto’s Tapestry New Opera Works. Jill’s latest book of poems is Ashes are Bone and Dust. 12, 15

Amy Beeder’s book Burn the Field came out in 2006. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, Poetry Daily, AGNI, The Nation, Pleiades, and American Letters & Commentary, among other journals. She teaches poetry at UNM. 7, 15

Hakim Bellamy is a two-time National Champion in the Poetry Slam scene: Albuquerque Team, 2005; Lobo Slam, 2006. Freelance journalist, community organizer, and social justice advocate, he currently works for the NM Office of African American Affairs and is a board member for Poetic Justice Institute and Black Cowgirl Productions. He is most proud of being the Poetry Club coach at South Valley Academy. His poetry has been published in the Harwood Anthology, Earthships, Sin Fronteras as well as A Bigger Boat and on Albuquerque inner-city buses. Hakim received an honorable mention for the UNM Paul Bartlett Re Peace Prize. 8, 15,16

Debbi Brody’s work has appeared in the Santa Fe Literary Review, Broomweed Journal, Poetica, Sin Fronteras and many other magazines and anthologies. She has a chapbook, Freeform, and her latest book is Portraits in Poetry. Debbi lives in Santa Fe. 15

Gary L. Brower is one of the directors of the Duende Poetry Series at the Anasazi Fields winery in Placitas. He has two chapbooks: Planting Trees in Terra Incognita, and The Book of Knots, and a CD of his poetry Gary Brower Reads. 10

Regie Cabico won top prizes in the 1993, 1994 and 1997 National Poetry Slams. His work appears in over 30 anthologies including Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café, Spoken Word Revolution and Slam. He has appeared on two seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, PBS’ In The Life and MTV’s Free Your Mind Spoken Word Tour. He is the recipient of three New York Innovative Theater Award Nominations with an award for 2006 Best Performance Art Production. Regie is the recipient of three New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships for Poetry and Multi-Disciplinary Performance. He teaches writing and performance for Urban Word, NYC and hosts The Friday Night Series for the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church. Most recently, Regie was the recipient of the 10th annual Writers for Writers Award sponsored by Poets & Writers. 9,13,17, 22

Carlos Contreras is lead mentor for the Voces Institute, a summer writing program for teens at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. He was a member of the National Poetry Championship team from Albuquerque in 2005 and has headed the poetry team for RFK charter school.  Carlos recently graduated with a bachelors degree from UNM’s creative writing program. 4, ?

Zoë Dwyer lives in Tesuque. Her poems have been included in art installations, on the web and in many print publications including Curbside Review, Runes and Santa Fe Literary Review. She performs with the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project, and for five years she has co-organized and co-hosted Santa Fe’s monthly Poets for Peace readings. 15,19

Catherine Ferguson is a poet and painter living in Galisteo. Inspired by landscape, animals, and trees, she creates watercolor, oils, and poems that express her love for nature. Catherine is one of three Northern NM poets featured in the award-winning The Sound a Raven Makes. 22

Jennifer Frank lives in Albuquerque. Her poems have appeared in Kalliope, Phoebe and the Harwood Anthology, online, in galleries and on the occasional city bus. She has worked on several projects involving poetry and the visual arts, including Cross-Pollination, a collaboration with artist Becky Holtzman. 15
